South Coast Baptist College is proud to announce the introduction of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award. Year 10 and 11 students in 2024, are eligible to participate and encouraged to join the pursue this opportunity.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is a highly regarded program for creating ‘future-ready citizens’ by developing confidence, teamwork, communication, and perseverance to equip our students for life.
The Award is a leading structured youth development framework, with an aim of empowering young Australians to explore their full potential and achieve personal goals in community service, fitness, skills development and adventure. The program is non-competitive and encourages participants to step outside their comfort zones, develop resilience and gain a sense of achievement. Students self-manage their process through an Online Record Book, where they can set up tailored activities, keep records, upload evidence, and submit assessor reports.
Students who partake in the Award choose and complete a skill, improve their physical wellbeing, volunteer in the community, and go on an adventure. All Participants are supported by a network of trained adult Award Leaders, Assessors, Supervisors, and mentors. The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is comprised of three levels: Bronze, Silver, and Gold, each progressively more challenging. There are four sections to each Award: Physical Recreation, Skills, Voluntary Service, and Adventurous Journey. As well as an additional fifth section for the Gold Award which is the Gold Residential Project.
Through this challenging journey of self-discovery, participants:
- Achieve an Award recognising individual goal setting and self-improvement through persistence and achievement
- Are equipped and empowered to achieve their personal best and take responsibility for their goals and choices
- Become connected to and actively engaged with their immediate community and make a real difference to society through their positive contributions
- Learn important life skills such as perseverance and resilience
- Build a comprehensive resume which assists in applications for scholarships, further study and job applications
- Are accredited as a WACE unit equivalent ‘C’ grade: 1 unit (Bronze), 2 units (Silver) and 4 units (Gold). Students are able to count a maximum of 4-unit equivalents, 2 in Year 11 and 2 in Year 12.
